A 30-Minute Walk for Women's Athletic Scholarships
Please join us in investing in our tomorrow!  Your contributions will provide educational opportunities in the classroom and on the playing surface.  Athletics builds leadership, discipline, teamwork, time management, conflict resolution and many other qualities needed to serve as tomorrow's leaders and contributing members of our communities.  We need your help so that these opportunities are available for young women-our daughters, nieces, neighbors, and friends.

 How the walk works: pre-walk

  • 2009 Honorary Co-Chairs are Rosemary Fri and Chris Monfort.
  • Develop a strike force committee to assist in corporate sponsorships.
  • Organize a steering committee to recruit team captains.
  • Team captains recruit walkers/participants.
  • Walkers enjoy a day of fun, wellness, and networking for a great cause!

How the money is raised

  • Secure corporate sponsors at various levels established by the strike force.
  • The steering committee will recruit team captains to form teams that will participate in the walk
  • Walkers will be asked to secure donations, with encouragement to solicit at least $50 - $100.
  • Donations for incentive prizes and gift in kind will also be a charge for the steering committee.
  • Each walker who turns in $50 receives an inaugural Hensel Phelps UNC Women's Walk t-shirt.  Walkers who bring in $100 will also receive a Hensel Phelps UNC Women's Walk tote bag.  For each additional $100 increment submitted, the walker's name will be entered in to the special prize drawing.

The special prize is 6 Club Level tickets to a Colorado Rockies game plus 1 room lodging at the Grand Hyatt Denver, including breakfast.  The deadline for submission of donations has been extended to Monday, April 13, 5 PM.  For those walkers who met the initial April 9 deadline, walker will be entered one additional time into the drawing.  Donations can be submitted to Pam Davis in Nottingham Stadium Thursday, April 9 or Monday, April 13 or to the Business Office in Butler-Hancock 208 anytime.

What happens the day of the walk

  • The walk will begin in Butler-Hancock with a pre- walk ceremony including welcomes from various individuals and VIPs.
  • The walk will take approximately 30 minutes on a route established across the UNC campus.
  • The walk will end at Butler-Hancock with a continental breakfast for all participants as well as special prize drawings and interaction with administrators, coaches and student-athletes.

Can't Attend But Still Want To Help?
We realize that some may want to support the walk but will be unable to attend the day of the event... not a problem!  You are invited to be a Cyberwalker on Saturday, April 18th, 2009!!  You may sign up as an individual Cyberwalker or team of Cyberwalkers.  Here's how it works:

  • Simply fill out the official Women's Walk registration form. This form can be located at www.uncbears.com, through your team captain or by contacting any of the walk representatives listed below.
  • Cyberwalkers are invited to take a 30 minute walk on the morning of Saturday, April 18th, 2009 in honor of the celebration. Check the website a few days following the walk to view a photo gallery of the event.
  • Make a personal donation and/or collect donations from family, friends and associates. (There is no minimum donation but do remember that all proceeds will go to support women's athletic scholarships). Please see donation forms located above.
  • Cyberwalkers are eligible for all prize giveaways if donations are received by April 9, 2009. Incentive prizes are awarded at donations of $50 and $100.

How Businesses Can Help
Businesses can contribute to the HENSEL PHELPS UNC WOMEN'S WALK in many ways:

  • Provide PSA spots to assist with event promotion.
  • Tag any radio or TV commercials or newspaper ads with a short statement to support the "UNC Women's Walk" and help promote the event.
  • Contribute as a cash sponsor within the various levels.
  • Contribute as a gift in kind sponsor with services, product donations, or gift certificates.
  • Form a team and select a team captain from your employees to collect donations in support of the walk.
  • Encouraging and supporting a team from your business is a tremendous community service and networking opportunity for your business in front of 500 or more women in attendance.
  • Make special mention of the "Walk" in your in house employee publications or customer newsletters.
  • List the walk information on your business marquee during the walk promotion timeline.
  • Invite the walk director or chair to speak at any service clubs or managers meetings you attend, etc. to help recruit walkers and support the walk.
  • Form a team and challenge your competitors in a contest as to who can collect the most donations.
  • Gain naming rights to incentive prizes with your business logo by contributing to the purchase of this prize.
  • Add the UNC Women's Walk link to the business website (which can also reflect community service performed).
