Three Women's Records Fall At Final Day of Big Sky Championship


COMPLETE RESULTS: Big Sky Championship

MISSOULA, Mont. - At the 2009 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, the women's team finished seventh with 60 points, while the men's team finished eighth with 40 points. Northern Arizona won the men's title with 169 points and Sacramento State won the women's crown with 161 points.

Junior Justine Sandersfeld successfully defended her indoor title in the 400 meters, repeating as the outdoor champion with a time of 54.99. Shaylee Robinette finished fourth and Jillian Hoblitt was fifth, timing in at 56.27 and 56.60, respectively.

Sophomore Kelly Coomes came back to earn all-conference honors, finishing second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.15, while senior Tali Slafter was fifth in 14.20. Only one-tenth of a second separated the top six finishers in the race.

In the 4x400 relay, the team of Robinette, Hoblitt, Lisa Drew and Sandersfeld clocked a 3:46.74 to finish third and break the school record of 3:47.61 from 1997 when Nancy Weber, Kim Schiemenz, C. Crabbs and Andrea Tate set the milestone.

The 4x100 relay finished sixth as Robinette, Sandersfeld, Coomes and Abby Weedor timed in at 47.16, also breaking the school record. This quartet bettered the previous team of N. Abramson, B. Statler, T. Tochihara and F. VonFeldt from 2001.

In the hammer throw, junior Meaghan Green finished fourth with a throw of 173-3, while she threw 145-11 to finish sixth in the discus. Her throw in the hammer is a personal best by over 10 feet and breaks her previous school record of 162-6.

In the 100 meters, junior Garrett Kidd finished fifth with a time of 10.98, while Terrence McGaughy finished eighth in 11.70 and he did not compete in the finals of the 200.

Junior Tyler Hoerner earned all-conference honors with his third place finish in the 400 meters after running a 48.05. Freshman Dan Larson finished eighth in the 800 meters with his clocking of 1:54.07.

Tyler Short also was named all-conference after placing second in the 400 meter hurdles in 52.84. Joe Pummer and Marty Wittmer finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the event.

The quartet of Kidd, Short, Hoerner and McGaughy finished third in the 4x100 meter relay, clocking a 41.59, while Hoerner, Larson, Travis Stanford and Wittmer placed fifth in the 4x400 relay after timing a 3:15.66.
