Cross Country Teams Finish Fourth In Season Opener

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The 2008 cross country season got underway for
the University of Northern Colorado late Friday afternoon at the
Jacoby Golf Course in the Wyoming Invitational. Both the men's and
women's teams placed fourth with the women tallying 87 points,
while the men scored 120. Colorado State won both races, scoring 22
in the women's race and 33 in the men's.
Junior Kellie Callahan paced the women's team, finishing in
eighth place with a time of 15:28.5 over the 2.5 mile course, while
junior Colleen Sanderlin crossed the tape in 15:51.7 to place
10th. Junior Erin Apsey and freshman Megan Horsch
finished 21st and 22nd in 16:56.7 and
16:57.0, respectively and junior Rachel Forrest rounded out the
scoring for the Bears with her 30th place finish in
18:17.1. Junior Lisa Drew finished just out of the counters in
31st with her time of 18:55.9
For the men, freshman Dylan Hedges and sophomore Daniel Sojka
finished 36th and 37th with times of 25:06.7
and 25:16.7, respectively. Sophomore Ben Corchado placed
40th in 25:35.9, while Travis Stanford, Joe Slack and
Joe Pummer placed 45th through 47th
respectively.
Wyoming's Mark Korir won the men's title, crossing the 4.25 mile
course in 21:45.4, while Ellie Rastall of Colorado State claimed
the women's crown in 14:49.5.
The Bears next compete at the Colorado State Classic on Sept. 13
in Fort Collins at Hughes Stadium with the races slated to start at
9:30 a.m.
