Both Squads Finish Third At Rocky Mountain Shootout

BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado cross country teams both placed third among Division I teams at the annual Rocky Mountain Shootout, hosted by the University of Colorado. The men's team scored 80 points, finishing behind Colorado and Air Force, while the women's team tallied 63 finishing behind the same squads.

Colleen Sanderlin paced the women's team, finishing ninth in the scoring and 18th overall, completing the 5.8 kilometer course in 23:00. Kellie Callahan placed two spots behind Sanderlin, in 20th just three seconds later. Brianna Spletstoser finished 33rd overall in 23:54 and Erin Apsey crossed the tape in 24:17 for 39th place. Freshman Megan Horsch rounded out the scoring, placing 62nd overall in 25:19.

For the men, Daniel Sojka was the top finisher, placing 76th overall in 28:58 over eight-kilometers. Ben Corchado placed 83rd in 29:31 and Dylan Hedges was 95th in 30:08. Matt Belasco was the 100th runner to cross the finish line, doing so in 31:08 and Matt Pummer was right behind him in 31:09.

Next weekend the Bears will be in Fort Hays, Kan., for the Tiger Invitational. The races are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
