PORTLAND, Ore. - At the 2008 Big Sky Conference Championship hosted by Portland State, the University of Northern Colorado men's and women's cross country teams both placed ninth. The women scored 221 points, while the men tallied 256.

Northern Arizona swept the team titles, winning the women's competition with 31 points and the men's with 19 points as the men placed four in the top five.  Weber State placed second on the men's side, while Eastern Washington was third, Montana fourth, Montana State fifth, Sacramento State sixth, Idaho State seventh and Portland State eighth.  The Sacramento State women finished second, while Weber State was third, Idaho State fourth, Montana fifth, Montana State sixth, Eastern Washington seventh and Portland State was eighth.

Kellie Callahan and Colleen Sanderlin both finished in the top 35 as Callahan completed the five-kilometer course in 18:31.0 and Sanderlin posted a 18:35.4 to finish 35^th. Brianna Spletstoser clocked a 19:16.7 for 50^th place, Erin Apsey took 52^nd in 19:19.0 and Megan Horsch rounded out the scoring timing in at 19:30.0 for 54^th. Also competing for the women were Jacqueline Lomax (56, 20:01.0), Rachel Forrest (57, 20:08.2) and Nicole Larson (66, 20:57.5)

Charles Hillig paced the men's team finishing the eight-kilometer race in 25:21.9 for 32^nd place. Daniel Sojka was 51^st in 26:21.9, Dylan Hedges was 53^rd in 26:34.0, Ben Corchado placed 59^th in 27:19.2 and Matt Hernandez was 61^st in 27:38.2. Joe Pummer and Matt Belasco placed 62^nd and 63^rd respectively for the Bears.

Northern Colorado will compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional in two weeks at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
