Northern Colorado Opens Season At Wyoming

The 2007 gets underway for the Northern Colorado cross country teams on Friday, as they compete at the Wyoming Invitational in Laramie. The women's 2.5 mile race is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., with the men's 4.25 mile race starting at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Last year, the Bears finished fifth with 114 points and the women were sixth with 153 points. Colorado State won the women's race and Air Force was victorious in the men's race.

New Leader

Doug Bell takes over the cross country coaching duties for 2007.  This is Bell's second stint with Northern Colorado, as he was an assistant coach in 1977-78 working with the men's distance team.

Kevin Galbraith remains the head coach for track & field and Bell will be an assistant coach during both the indoor and outdoor seasons for the Bears.

Year Two

This will be the second year of competition in the Big Sky Conference for both the men's and women's team. At last year's championship, the men finished eighth, while the women placed ninth.

The men's team does not return a single runner from last year's championship team, while the women's squad returns sophomore Denise Kintzley, sophomore Colleen Sanderlin, sophomore Rachel Forrest and sophomore Allison McIntire off the team that competed for the league title.
