Sarmento Named To Sports Network All-America Team

COMPLETE TEAM: Sports Network All-America

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Northern Colorado senior linebacker Cristian Sarmento was today named to the Sports Network FCS All-America Second Team. Sarmento was one of 17 players from the Big Sky Conference honored by the Sports Network.

Sarmento becomes the first All-America for the Bears since Reed Doughty was a consensus All-American in 2005.

In his senior season, Sarmento led the Big Sky Conference and ranked among the top five in the nation in total tackles with 142 and was a Big Sky All-Conference First-Team selection. He has a 3.46 grade point average in sport and exercise science and is working on becoming a physical education teacher. He is the only three-year player to rank on the Big Sky charts in total tackles as the Bears were not a member of the league in his freshman season, ending his stellar career with 376 stops and 15 career sacks.

The Big Sky Conference led all FCS leagues with 17 selections.  Four Big Sky players were tabbed to the first team, while seven were named to the second team, and six were selected to the third team. Another 11 players received honorable mention honors. The squad was selected by sportswriters and sports information directors from across the nation.
