Northern Colorado football announces Signing Day haul


GREELEY, Colo. -- University of Northern Colorado head football coach Scott Downing announced Wednesday, Feb. 4, the sign­ing of 10 players to a National Letter of Intent. All will enroll in the fall of 2009 and join three mid-year transfers, who are currently enrolled in classes at Northern Colorado, and one preferred walk-on.

The Bears, for the first time in several years, went out of state more for their recruiting with this class, signing four from Colo­rado, along with three from California, two from Arizona and one from Texas.

Following is a biography of each player signed today, plus the three mid-year transfers and one walk-on addition:

SIGNEES/PREFERRED WALK-ONS

Jace Davis, 6-3, 185, ATH, Lone Tree, Colo. (Denver East)
Expected to graduate from Denver East High School in May, 2009... Earned three letters in football and four in basketball... Was a first-team all-conference selec­tion as a senior in football and earned all-state honors after his junior season in basketball at Highlands Ranch.

Personal: Is one of three children of Debbie Phelps and Marcus Davis, with two sisters... Sister Jade is a freshman basketball player at Wisconsin, where she has played in all but one game this season... Born August 22, 1991 and has not yet decided on a major at Northern Colorado.

Cameron Deen, 6-3, 195, QB, West Covina, Calif. (South Hills)
Plans to graduate from South Hills High School in June 15, 2009... Was MVP of the CIF and a first-team all-league, all-CIF and all-area selection in his senior year... Earned first-team all-CIF and first-team all-league and all-area as a junior... Threw for 2,286 yards and 23 touchdowns this past season and 1,276 yards and 15 touch­downs as a junior... Also is a pitcher and first baseman on the Huskies' baseball team, earning four varsity letters in each sport.

Personal: Born August 17, 1990 in West Covina to Rick and Valarie Deen... Has two younger brothers and one younger sister... Is undecided on a major at Northern Colorado.

Pasiaka (Pasi) Fahina, 5-11, 290, DT, Mesa, Ariz. (Mesa)
Expected to graduate from Mesa High School in June, 2009... A three-year let­terwinner in football for the Jackrabbits, he was an honorable mention all-state selection as both a junior and senior as well as an all-region selection his last two years... He led the region in tackles and sacks for a defensive lineman the past two seasons... Team captain.

Personal: Born December 17, 1990 to Pasiaka and Eli Koni.

David Kraus, 6-3, 300, OL, Phoenix, Ariz. (Desert Vista)
Expected to graduate from Desert Vista High School in May, 2009... According to Rivals.com is the 24th ranked offensive guard in the country and the seventh-best prospect in Arizona... Helped the Thunder to a state-runner up title in 2007 and the regional championship in 2006.

Personal: Born August 27, 1990 to David Kraus and Michelle Rodriguez... Comes from the same high school as current Bears' men's basketball freshman Michael Proctor.

Ryan Landseadel, 6-0, 185, DB, Simi Valley, Calif. (Oaks Christian)
Plans on a June, 2009 graduation from Oaks Christian High School... Named to the first-team all-Tri Valley team the previous three seasons... Helped lead the team to four-straight CIF Championships and a perfect 14-0 record as a senior.

Personal: Born November 16, 1990 to Jacquline Landseadel.

Mark McKinnon, 6-2, 265, OL, Littleton, Colo. (Dakota Ridge)
Plans on graduating from Dakota Ridge High School in May, 2009... Was a first-team all-state selection as a senior and a two-time first-team all-conference selec­tion for the Eagles... Earned three letters at 4A on the offensive line.

Personal: Born on May 6, 1991... Has two brothers, one older and one younger.

Gavin Miller, 6-2, 235, LB, Greeley, Colo. (Greeley West)
Expected to graduate from Greeley West High School on May 23, 2009... Earned three letters each in football and track & field... Was named the Greeley Tribune Football Athlete of the Year after earning the 4A defensive player of the year award... Was also a National Football Foundation college hall of fame scholar-ath­lete selection... Was a three-year all-conference selection as well as being named to the all-state and all-Colorado team as a senior... Has also been named to the academic all-state first-team the previous two years.

Personal: Is one of two sons of Mark and Paula Miller... Born April 8, 1991 in Gree­ley... Is undecided in a major at Northern Colorado.

Chris Morris, 6-3, 185, WR, Burbank, Calif. (John Burroughs)
Expected to graduate from John Burroughs High School in June, 2009... Named to the second-team all-conference team as a senior after 20 catches for 629 yards and seven touchdowns... As a junior had 43 catches for 420 yards and five touch­downs... Also plays basketball and runs track & field for the Indians... Is a two-time all-league selection in track & field as a sprinter.

Personal: Born August 25, 1991 to Gerri Morris in Howard, Calif... Is an only child and has not yet decided on a major.

Josh Morton, 6-0, 195, RB, LaPorte, Colo. (Poudre)
Expected to graduate in May, 2009 from Poudre High School... As a senior, he was named to the all-conference, all-state and all-Colorado first-teams after earning first-team all-conference and second-team all-state as a junior... Led 5A in rushing and was third overall in the state with 2,349 yards and 28 touchdowns... He tal­lied seven games of 200 or more yards en route to 3,870 career rushing yards... In 2007, helped lead the Impalas to a share of the conference championship.

Personal: Is the oldest of seven sons of Adam and Shannon Herning... Born De­cember 9, 1990 in Steamboat Springs, Colo., and hopes to major in business or criminal justice.

Bryce Schwindt, 6-2, 280, OL, Littleton, Colo. (Columbine)
Plans on a May, 2009 graduation from Columbine High School... Named to the all-Colorado, all-state and all-conference teams in his senior campaign, as well as an all-conference selection as a junior... Helped lead Columbine to the state champi­onship title in 2006... Owns the Rebels' school weight-lifting records in bench and squat for both juniors and seniors, in addition to the junior power clean record.

Personal: Born May 20, 1991 to Mike Schwindt and Kenora French... Plans on ma­joring in criminal justice at Northern Colorado.

Kendall Robertson, 5-11, 220, ATH, Denver, Colo. (Montbello)
Will join the Norther Colorado football program as a preferred walk-on... Rushed for 270 yards and one touch­down on 45 carries and had four fumble recoveries, five-and-half sacks and 50 solo tackles on the defensive side for the Warriors... Was a second-team All-Central Metro selection as well as a captain for Montbello... Also was a member of Montbello's wrestling and track teams.

Personal: Born March 11, 1991, to Charles and Angela Robertson... Plans on majoring in physical education (K-12) at Northern Colorado... Was born in Vail, Colo. ... Will graduate in May.

TRANSFERS:

Lawrence Barker, 6-4, 245, TE, Denver, Colo. (N.D. State College of Science)
2008 (at NDSCS): Helped lead the Wildcats to a 5-5 overall record and 3-5 record in conference, starting at tight end.

2007 (at Northern Colorado): Redshirted.

High School: Graduated from Thomas Jefferson in 2007... Named to the all-city team as well as an all-state hon­orable mention... Helped the Spartans to the state basketball title in both 2005 and 2006... Was a member of the honor roll and was a team captain.

Personal: Born April 4, 1989 in Denver... Is the only son of Stephanie Truesdale... Is planning on majoring in crimi­nal justice.

Marcus Lucas, 6-4, 220, DE, Aurora, Colo. (Rangeview HS)

2007: Voted first-team all-conference as a senior... Recorded 63 tackles and nine sacks... Had one interception as a senior and returned it for a touchdown... Also returned a fumble 78 yards for a touchdown as a senior.

Rickey Spencer, 6-0, 175, DB, Spring Valley, Calif. (Fullerton JC)
2008 (at Fullerton):
Had one blocked kick and one pass break up in seven games with 11 tackles.

2007 (at Fullerton): All but one of his tackles were solo as he tallied 12 in seven games.

High School: Played both offense and defense for Monte Vista High School and also ran cross country, graduating in 2005.

Personal: Born September 25, 1987 in San Diego... Is one of five children of Ophelia Steppe and Rickey Spencer... Is majoring in psychology at Northern Coloardo.
