NC-NAU Post-Game Notes

GAME NOTES: Northern Arizona at Northern Colorado (9.27.2008)

Junior cornerback Quincy Wofford's 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game was the first of his career and the first Division I touchdown return for Northern Colorado. Wofford's return was the Bears' first TD return, overall, since Brad Pyatt returned one 91 yards for a score against St. Cloud State on Oct. 12, 2002.

Wofford's return, the Bears' first 100-yard return since 1973, also tied three others for the longest kickoff return in school history.

Wofford's 124 kickoff return yards for the game were the 10th most single-game return yards in school history.

Sophomore half-back Sam Sewell's two-point conversion following Wofford's return was Northern Colorado's first since Andre Wilson converted a two-point conversion pass against Idaho State on Sept. 18, 2004. Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Smith then converted another two-pointer for the Bears with just over two minutes left in the first half.

Senior linebacker Trey Keene's five tackles in the first quarter were just one shy of his career high for tackles in a game and he finished with a career-best nine stops.

Northern Arizona senior placekicker Robbie Dehaze's missed 34-yard field goal at the start of the second quarter was his first miss in 10 tries.

Senior tight ends Ryan Chesla's 40-yard reception in the second quarter was the longest of his career. His previous high was a 34-yarder against these same Lumberjacks last season. Chesla tied his career-high with 99 reception yards in the game.

Senior wide receiver Cory Fauver's 75-yard pass reception near the end of the first half was the longest of his career by far. His previous high was a 34-yarder against San Diego in 2007.

Fauver's second-quarter reception was the Bears' third play of 75 yards or more in 2008.

Senior cornerback Myles Hayes' 83-yard interception return near the end of the second quarter -- the first interception of his career - was the fourth longest in school history. Vance Lechman had the longest with a 95-yarder against North Dakota in 1989.

Senior linebacker Cristian Sarmento had 19 tackles in the game, giving him 11 straight double-digit tackle games against FCS opponents.

Sophomore safety Mike Van Portfliet's blocked punt with 9:12 remaining in the fourth quarter was Northern Colorado's first since Joe Silipo got a hand on one in the Bears' victory against Montana State during the 2007 season. Van Portfliet then blocked another Dehaze punt with 2:35 remaining in the fourth quarter to tie three others for the school record for punts in a game. Delano Washington was the last to do it when he blocked two against Northwest Missouri State in 1996.

This is the first time in the Scott Downing era that Northern Colorado was tied at the half. The Bears are now 0-1 under Downing when tied at the half.

Freshman Cameron Kaman's six punts in the game were the most of his career. This is the second straight game he has had a punt over 50 yards.
