Post-Game Notes

Northern Colorado at Sacramento State

November 15, 2008

  • Sophomore linebacker Matt King recorded his second sack of the season and second of his career in the first quarter. He also forced the first fumble of his career.
  • Junior linebacker Logan Zabel recovered his first career fumble in the first quarter.
  • Junior quarterback Bryan Waggener scored his first rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
  • Senior linebacker Cristian Sarmento forced his fifth fumble of the season and seventh of his career and recovered the first this season and fourth of his career early in the second quarter. The five forced fumbles ties the Division I (FCS) school record, tying Paul Hubbard from 2003, the first year of the transition.
  • Michael York made his 12th field goal of the year in the second quarter, which moved him into a tie for seventh on the school's single season charts with Kevin Jelden (1982) and Mike Schauer (1998 and 1999). He then made his 13th as clock expired in the first half to tie Justin Zaitz (2004) for sixth.
  • With his second kickoff return of the game, senior Eric Brown brought his career return yards to 748, moving him past Cliff Harris' (1973-76) 745 yards into sixth place on the all-time list. He ended the contest with 93 return yards for a career-total of 796.
  • The Bears lost their first fumble since the game against Northern Arizona on Sept. 27. The Bears had gone five games without losing a fumble.
  • Stephen Michon notched his first interception this season and the fourth of his career in the second quarter.
  • In the first quarter, Waggener surpassed 2,000 passing yards for the season, becoming just the second quarterback since transitioning to Division I to hit the milestone (Tony Christensen, 2,109 yards, 2003). His last pass of the half, a 44-yard strike to Alex Thompson moved him past Christensen for the school's single season record at FCS. Waggener now has 2,292 yards for the season, needing just 11 yards to tie Tom Beck (1996) for 10th on the single season charts with 2,303.
  • Junior cornerback Quincy Wofford intercepted his third pass of the season and fifth of his career on the Hornets first possession of the second half.
  • Junior wide receiver Alex Thompson had over 100 reception yards in the first half, marking the second straight game the Bears have had someone over the century mark and the third time this year (Dominic Gunn, Brandon Smith). On the Bears touchdown drive in the third quarter, Thompson tallied the season-best reception yard total and ended the game with 145 yards. His total is the 11th best single-game total since the Bears joined the FCS, with seven of those 11 coming from current San Diego Charger Vincent Jackson.
