Men's tennis has trouble with powerhouse Hornets

RESULTS: at Sacramento
State
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Northern Colorado
men’s tennis team’s Big Sky Championship tournament
hopes were squashed Monday, March 16, with a 6-1 loss at Big Sky
powerhouse Sacramento State.
The Bears (2-14, 1-6) were swept in doubles action despite a
strong effort by their No. 1 doubles tandem of Adam Perez and Calix
Van Lier, who fell to the Hornets' Holden Ching and Marko
Starcevic, 8-4.
In singles action, Northern Colorado showed some life when Perez
(No. 2) came back to defeat Ching 2-6, 6-0, 6-2.
However, despite strong showings by Van Lier (No. 1) and Andy
Green (No. 5), the Bears were not able to come up with anymore
singles victories.
Van Lier hung around in the first set against Sac. State's Kiryl
Harbatiuk but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-1.
Green came back from two service breaks in the second set against
Sac’s Artur Klimenka but couldn’t hold serve in the end
and was defeated 6-2, 6-4.
The Bears will next travel to the bay area when they take on San
Francisco at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 17.
