Balanced Attack Leads Bears Past Rangers

GREELEY, Colo. - Eight of the 11 players who saw action for the
Northern Colorado women's basketball team in the first exhibition
game of the year scored at least five points as the Bears defeated
the Regis Rangers 86-57.
Sophomore forward Kaisha Brown led the team with a
double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to go
along with three assists and three steals. Senior guard Whitley Cox
scored a game-high 16 points, while junior guard Courtney Stoermer
and junior guard Emily Elliott were both in double figures in
points with 13 and 11, respectively.
Redshirt freshman Victoria Timm notched a game-best six steals,
while senior guard Lizzie Cooper had eight assists and junior
center Brittany Fernandez recorded three blocked shots.
The Bears shot .493 from the field (36-73) and .364 (8-22) from
beyond the arc, but struggled at the free throw line, connecting at
just .375 (6-16). NC was out-rebounded 40-38, but had 13 less
turnovers than Regis at 37-24. The Bears also tallied 23 assists
and 23 steals in their first time on the court.
Regis was led by Tae'lor Purdy with 14 points and seven
rebounds, while Chelsea Porter added 12 points.
Northern Colorado scored the first five and 11 of the first 12
points of the contest and never trailed, leading by as many as 35
points with 2:46 remaining in the game.
The Bears close out the exhibition season on Friday against
Metro State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and admission is
free to the game.
