Women's Golf Finishes 11th at Dove Canyon

DOVE CANYON, Calif. - The Northern Colorado women's golf team
finished their third tournament of the spring this week in Irvine,
Calif. The Bears steadily moved up each round in the
tournament finishing in 11th place with an overall score
of 988 (336, 335, 317).
Leading the Bears throughout the tournament was senior Heather
Daviner. Daviner shot the most consistent three rounds
carding an 80 in the first two rounds and an 81 in the third.
The senior finished the tournament tied in 41st carding
an overall score of 241.
Next in the rankings for the Bears was freshman Chelsea Silvers
who finished with an overall score of 249 and tied for
55th place. Silvers shot an 84 in the first round
and after slipping to an 86 in the second she was able to bounce
back and finish strong in the third with a score of 79.
Redshirt senior Katie Avery improved her play dramatically
throughout the tournament. After carding a 90 in the first
round, Avery improved to an 84 in the second round and only got
better from there. Avery shot a 77 in the third round
improving 13 strokes from the first round. Avery finished
tied for 60th tallying an overall score of 251.
Not far behind was sophomore Abby McNeley who finished tied for
66th with an overall score of 253 (82, 88, 83).
Another Bear who saw tremendous improvement throughout the
tournament was freshman Ali Nelson. Nelson carded a 90 in
round one and improved five strokes each round after. The
freshman would finish the tournament in 68th with an
overall score of 255 (90, 85, 80).
Long Beach State won the team title with a final score of 891
(302, 300, 289). The individual winner of the tournament was
UC Davis's Chelsea Stelzmiller who carded a 221 (72, 69, 71).
The Bears will next travel to Chandler, Ariz. on April 6-7 to
compete in the Cowgirl Classic hosted by the University of
Wyoming.
