Ali Nelson Tied For Third After Second Day At Conference Championship


RESULTS: Big Sky Conference Championship

CHANDLER, Ariz.  - The Northern Colorado women's golf team is in sixth place with a score of 641 (324, 317) through two rounds of play at the Big Sky Conference women's golf championship.

Leading the way for the Bears is freshman Ali Nelson, who after the first round found herself in eighth place, but after a strong round two, jumped up in the standings and is now tied for third.  Round one saw Nelson shoot a 77 whereas in round two she bounced back to card a two-over par 74.  The freshman is currently sitting with an overall score of 151 heading into round three.

Yet another freshman that is helping lead the way for the Bears is Chelsea Silvers.  Through the first two rounds of play, Silvers is tied for 18th with a tally of 159.  The freshman's better round came in round one where she shot a 78 before slipping just three strokes to an 81 in round two.

Senior Heather Daviner and sophomore Emily Dougherty are tied for 33rd with an overall score of 166.  Daviner shot an 86 in round one where Dougherty would do two better and card an 84.  In round two, it was Daviner that would win the round by two strokes carding an 80 whereas Dougherty would card an 82.

Redshirt senior Katie Avery is currently in 40th with an overall score of 171.  Avery is staying consistent for the Bears carding in 85 in round one and an 86 in round two.

Leading the tournament as a team is University of Northern Arizona with a tally of 607 (298, 309).The current individual leaders of the Big Sky Championship are Ali Carter and Alexa Kim, from NAU, who are both shooting a four over 148.

Round three will be played on Wednesday at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.
