GREELEY, Colo. -- Day one of the Clarion Inn Northern Colorado Classic has completed with Oregon State and the University of Northern Colorado Bears coming out on top in the two matches.

The first game that paired up Oregon State and North Florida made it until the 85th minute when Jessica Velasquez of Oregon State scored the lone goal of the match. The two teams had been battling back and forth, but Oregon outshot the Ospreys 20-3.

North Florida's goalkeeper recorded six saves in the game against the Beavers. This was the first meeting for both teams. The Beavers improve to 4-1 on the season while North Florida moves to 1-4-1.

Northern Colorado took to the field in the second match to face the Rider Broncs in a game that ended in a 4-0 victory for the Bears.

Freshman Kimmie Fiedler scored the first goal of the game in the 29th minute of the game to start the Bears' rally. Fiedler broke away from defenders to earn the unassisted goal against Rider goalkeeper Alex Post. It was Fiedler's first goal of the season.

The Bears struck again at 44:26 when freshman Aundreaha Martinez scored the first goal of her Northern Colorado career. Sophmore Brittani Knott got her third assist of the season on the score.

The game remained at 2-0 going into the second half when, in the 60th minute, Northern Colorado senior Jessica Zimmerman scored from the left side off an assist from sophomore Olivia Deadmond.

Nine minutes later Fiedler earned her second goal of the game from a shot outside of the box that she powered into the left corner of the goal. Deadmond assists this score, too.

Northern Colorado improved to 3-4-0 on the season with the win over the Broncs. Rider fell to 1-4-1.

The tournament continues on Sunday when North Florida faces Rider at 10 a.m. The Bears will close out the weekend against the Oregon State Beavers at 1:30.
