The final day of the Clarion Inn Northern Colorado Classic ended with a big win for the Bears against the Oregon State Beavers. Northern Colorado moves to 4-4-0.

Northern Colorado and Oregon State had both won their matches on Friday against Rider and North Florida respectively.

The game went back and forth but remained scoreless going into the second half. In the physical game that ended with a total of 30 fouls and three yellow cards the winning goal came off of a penalty kick.

Off of a free kick and a scramble for the ball freshman Ariel Cook was taken to the ground. For the penalty kick the Bears sent out junior Sydney VanderVelde. VanderVelde took the shot and sent it to the top right just past the Beavers goalkeeper to tally her fourth goal of the season.

In the 88^th minute the Beavers tried to fight back, recording the teams lone corner kick of the game, but the final score remained 1-0.

For the Bears, freshman Kirsten Salminen recorded six saves against the 13 shots made by Oregon State.

Senior Megan Bellendir was named tournament MVP for her efforts on the weekend. Other Northern Colorado players named to the All-Tournament team included senior Jessica Zimmerman, who had a goal against rider and three shots against Oregon State; freshman Kimmie Fiedler who scored twice against Rider and had two shots against the Beavers; Katey Borman who helped to lead the Bears to both wins on defense.

The first game of the day matched up the North Florida Ospreys against the Rider Broncs. North Florida was able to earn the win 3-0 to split the tournament.

Northern Colorado will now travel to El Paso, Texas to play in the UTEP Tournament. The Bears will face Grambling on Sept. 19 and the UTEP Miners on Sept. 21.
