Bears Soccer Falls in Overtime

Northern Colorado’s third women's soccer overtime match of
the season ended in a 3-2 loss to the Utah Valley Wolverines on
Thursday night in Orem, Utah. This drops the Bears to 2-3-0 on the
season and 1-2 in overtime games.
Utah Valley struck first with a goal from Jennie Clough almost
10 minutes into the match. Northern Colorado then fought back and,
after a handball penalty was called against the Wolverines, Bears
senior Teresa Prais scored her first goal of the season to tie it
at 1-1.
Still tied after the half, Utah Valley struck again with a quick
goal from Jaime Lyons at 46:36, but junior Marcie Johnson tied it
up again. Johnson made it past two defenders to score at 58:15.
In the overtime period it was Clough that came out and ended the
game for the Wolverines with her second goal of the night against
Northern Colorado freshman goalkeeper Kirstin Salminen. Salminen
recorded eight saves in the match.
“It was just a back-and-forth game,” Bears coach Tim
Barrera said. “We fought them off but came up short in the
end.”
Northern Colorado will now head to Logan, Utah, to face Utah
State on Sept. 6 to finish out the road trip.
