Northern Colorado comes up short in cold game against Sacramento State

BOX
SCORE
GREELEY, Colo. - Northern Colorado fell 1-0 to
evenly matched Sacramento State on Sunday after a cold 90 minutes
of play. This loss drops the Bears to 4-7-1 and 0-2-0 while the
Hornets improve to 7-3-3 on the season.
The game, which was pushed back one hour after Friday's snow
storm, began with fairly icy field conditions. Neither team could
find the goal in the first 45 minutes but sophomore goalkeeper
Kirsten Salminen held the score at 0-0 recording 5 saves going into
half time.
Going into the warmer second half it was the Hornets who would
find the net on a long cross from Kelsey O'Donnell. The kick was
deflected by Salminen into the post but took an angle into the left
corner as the solo goal of the game.
The Bears played a strong second half forcing four saves by the
Hornets goalkeeper, including a strong shot from freshman Alexsys
Tamayo, but came up just short in the loss.
"It was a good game with two good teams," said head coach Tim
Barrera, "We need to work on connecting that final pass going into
next week."
Northern Colorado will now travel to Weber State on October
15th and continue on to Idaho State to face the Bengals
on the 17th.
