Soccer Ends Season On A High Note

GREELEY, Colo. -- For the second Friday in a row, Northern
Colorado has come out with a win in a big way. The Bears took
control of the team's last game of the year in a 4-0 win over
visiting Northern Arizona. The win improves the Bears to 2-5 in Big
Sky play to wrap up the season.
The final game was a night to honor seniors Sydney VanderVelde
and Marcie Johnson and the Bears got the game going with an
unassisted goal from Johnson in the 19th minute of the
match. Johnson dribbled the ball past the defenders and broke away
to make the shot past the goalkeeper into the corner of the net
putting Northern Colorado up 1-0.
Going into the second half it was sophomore Ariel Cook who took
control for the Bears. Less than 10 minutes into the half Cook
received a pass from the corner from junior Olivia Deadmond and
made the short shot to put the Bears up 2-0.
Cook increased the lead to 3-0 with a shot seven minutes later
taking the assist from Johnson making the shot from only three
yards out.
Johnson sealed the deal for Northern Colorado with her second
unassisted goal of the night after a breakaway from 10 yards out
putting the final score at 4-0.
"Marcie played a great game and played with a lot of confidence
tonight," said head coach Tim Barrera, "Both Sydney and Marcie
played really well. We are all really happy with how the team
played tonight."
This game ended the Bears 2009 season which ended with a 6-10-1
record and will return to Jackson Stadium in 2010.
