Swimming & Diving Starts With Double Dual at Air Force

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - It was almost a Homecoming of sorts
for Northern Colorado swimming and diving head coach Kelly
McClanahan in her first meet of the season as she took the Bears to
Air Force for a double dual against Air Force and TCU, two teams
she faced often as an assistant at Wyoming for the past several
years. The Bears lost the dual with Air Force 174-124 and
fell to TCU 195.5-97.5.
Junior Tori Gutt continued her stellar career at Northern
Colorado, winning the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:26.13 and
the 200 IM with a clocking of 2:13.11. Gutt already owns the
school's record in the 200 breast and has the third-best clocking
in the 200 IM. She also swam a 2:13.99 to finish fourth in the 200
butterfly.
Kelly Schmeckpepper-Cook and Sarah Cook finished second and
third, respectively in the 3-meter diving with scores of 220.10 and
216.40. Schmeckpepper-Cook also took third in the 1-meter with a
tally of 233.90. Sophomore Sammy Leonard placed third in the 100
back in 1:01.46.
Freshman Tatum Boehnke finished fourth in the 1000 yard free,
swimming an 11:03.07, while Hannah Halstrom broke up four TCU
swimmers in the top five of the 200 free, finishing fourth in
2:00.49. Sophomore Amanda Donegan tied for fourth place in the 100
breast after timing a 1:10.26 and also finished fourth in the 500
free with her time of 5:26.11. After swimming a 24.92, sophomore
Jennifer (JJ) Smith found herself in fourth place. Cheryl Bready
also finished fourth, swimming a 2:15.86 in the 200 backstroke.
The Bears are back in the pool for competition on Oct. 29 at the
New Mexico Relays then have a double dual against New Mexico State
and Northern Arizona on Friday and Saturday in Las Cruces.
