Bears Have Trio Honored For Academics

GREELEY, Colo. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today named three Northern Colorado student-athletes to ESPN The Magazine All-District teams. Both Max Hewitt and Tim McGraw were named to the Football District VII First Team, while Allison Raguse was named to the Volleyball District VII Second Team.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. District VII includes teams from the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Hewitt, a sophomore safety from Aurora, Colo., has a 3.36 grade point average in accounting. On the field, he is tied for the team lead with three interceptions and is second on the team with 52 tackles. He also has a blocked punt and two pass break ups this season.

McGraw, a sophomore center from Castle Rock, Colo., has a perfect 4.00 gpa in business administration. He has started five games this season, missing two to injury but has helped the Bears average more than 100 yards of offense better than a year ago.

Raguse, a junior middle blocker from Lincoln, Neb., sports a 3.91 gpa in psychology. She has started in every match and is hitting .339 while averaging 2.75 kills and 0.85 blocks per game. She has been named the Big Sky Conference player of the week twice this season and ranks among the league leaders in several categories.

Raguse and the rest of the volleyball team play at Portland State tonight and face Eastern Washington on Saturday evening, while Hewitt, McGraw and the rest of the football team host Eastern Washington Saturday at noon.
