Volleyball Pushes Past Bengals, Ends Night In Sky's Top Spot

BOXSCORE: Northern Colorado-Idaho State

POCATELLO, Idaho -- A night after losing its second straight match, Northern Colorado's volleyball team found a cure for what ailed it in a tidy 3-0 victory against Idaho State on Saturday night in southern Idaho.

And to top it off, the Bears, which improved with the win to 11-5 and 5-2 in the Big Sky Conference, found themselves in the conference's pole position, percentage points ahead of Portland State (12-5, 5-2 Big Sky).

Northern Colorado used a relentless attack (48 kills) and defense from all-comers (47 digs) to get the 25-22, 25-19, 25-16 victory against the Bengals. The 48 kills tied for the Bears' second most this season in a three-set match.

Junior Kenzie Shreeve led all players in the match with 19 kills, and her eight digs were the third most among Northern Colorado players.

"We were very well-rounded tonight," Bears coach Lyndsey Benson said. "We had a lot of players scoring for us, and Kenzie Shreeve was dominant tonight -- she really took her match to a new level.

"We raised our level of play as the match went on, so that was a great positive for us that we're going to need as we head into more Big Sky matches."

First-place Northern Colorado will now take a week off before facing Northern Arizona in Flagstaff on Saturday, Oct. 18.
