ISU-NC post game quotes

Junior Outside Hitter Kenzie Shreeve

On Team's Struggles Offensively

"We definitely started out slow and that's what happened there in the third game. They were playing at a high level and for some reason we came out without the high level we usually have here at home. We knew we had to pick it up in the fourth game."

"I think we were still down in the slumps from those two losses (last weekend on the road). They were huge for us but it's good that we came back. It's a good win for us. Especially coming off our two losses. This was a good win for us to get back into things and prepare for Weber State and Northern Arizona."

On What Was Talked About In The Locker Room After Game Two

"We talked about picking up defense. It was one of our goals at the beginning of the season, to beat our opponent in both blocks and digs so our goal was to come back out and play better defense."

"I think we went out playing kind of frantic. Coming off those two losses we came out a little afraid and I think that's what they took advantage of."

Freshman Outside Hitter Breanna Williams

"Their libero was digging up a lot of balls that she didn't get up when we played them the first time.  In those long rallies we were able to overpower them because we have terminating hitters where as they were just trying to keep the ball in play. That's really what got us the win tonight."

Head Coach Lyndsey Benson

On Different Lineup Combinations

"We didn't do it on purpose. We kind of did it by necessity. We started the match the same and we wanted to get into a good flow going into Saturday night after coming off a tough weekend. We couldn't find that flow so we tried some different people to get that back. Ashley (Lictenberg) isn't quite healthy yet so we're having to make some adjustments because of her. Other than that, we weren't trying to make many adjustments."

Was It Hard To Get Emotion Going?

"We talked about it all night. Idaho State is a tough team to play in that regard. They don't play with a lot of pep so you really have to create it on your side and we had a hard time doing that where our previous matches at home, have been a tougher battle; it's been easier to create that energy than it was tonight. We struggled a little creating it on our side.

On Idaho State's Defense

"They were playing for a tournament spot so this was a huge match for them. I think it knocks them out of the tournament, I think they had to win out to have a tournament shot so they looked like they were playing for a season and we were just playing. It made a big difference of their intensity versus ours. It definitely took us out of a rhythm.

Pleased With Resiliency Of Your Team?

"I guess it's a sign of a good team that we can win even when we're struggling and don't have that rhythm. We made a big step up this year in that regard, that we don't have to be playing perfect to be able to battle through it to get the win."

On Final Weeks Of Season

"This weekend last year we were still fighting for a tournament spot so we've definitely taken a huge step as a program to have secured our tournament spot with three weeks left in the season. It is a little bit of a relief but we want that bye. It's a big advantage to be the number one or two seed, have a match off, be able to scout for a match. There's a lot to play for in these next two matches and I think we have a good shot at still getting one of those top two seeds."

Looking Ahead To Weber State

"We are not going to talk about this match tonight a whole lot. Weber State is a very different team. They create a different energy, they beat us at their place so we have some revenge we need to get back on Weber State so I think our team will come ready to play. We're not going to make a whole lot of adjustments from this match. It's over, Idaho State's a tough team to play against and we prepare for Weber starting tomorrow."

On Lichtenberg Playing At Less Than 100%

"She's a huge block for us and so when we take her out of the lineup we miss that blocking factor. And offensively she can also put up some numbers. We have some people who can fill that void a little bit better than we can the blocking void. It gives up less depth when we put Bre (Williams) or Julie (Stephenson) on the right side, then we don't have a sub on the left side so it limits us to not have Ashley in their 100%. She's tough and I think she'll be ready to go on Saturday."
