Northern Colorado TraditionsThe University of Northern Colorado has known lots of success
and had lots of tradition over the years. From the early days of
football (pictured above is the 1895 team, the third team the
university fielded) to the baseball program that has made 10
College World Series appearances (12th all-time) and produced
several major league players and managers (including former
All-American Greg Riddoch, pictured at the bottom of the page, who
managed the San Diego Padres).
Over the years the program has produced 31 individual national
champions, three national players of the year, two team national
champions and well over 400 All-Americans and over 40 CoSIDA
Academic All-Americans.
The school has seen several name changes since its inception:
- State Normal School (1889-1911)
- Colorado State Teachers College (1911-35)
- Colorado State College of Education (1935-57)
- Colorado State College (1957-70)
- University of Northern Colorado (1971-present)
The below links provide a more in-depth look at the traditions
of the Northern Colorado program.
